The City of Lindsborg, Kansas is recruiting for Chief of Police - Public Safety Director. Lindsborg is located 20 miles south of the intersection of I-70 and I-135. In 2015, Livability.com selected Lindsborg as one of the Best 100 Small Towns in the USA. The citizens of the community place high value on public safety. A 2017 citizen survey said that 95% feel that Lindsborg is a safe place to live and 90% rate the community with an overall high quality of life.

The current Chief - Director of Public Safety is retiring after serving the community for 34 years, 21 of those as Chief. The Chief of Police will lead a team of high skilled staff and oversee the Police Department. Also, as Director of Public Safety, the responsibility includes the management of the volunteer Fire Department and volunteer Emergency Medical Service. The Fire Chief supervises the volunteer department and the Director of Emergency Medical Services supervises EMS services. Police, Fire and EMS all perform their services with the utmost in professionalism. Under the direction of the City administrator, the Chief of Police - Director of Public Safety provides for the health, safety and well-being of Lindsborg's citizens and guests through management of assigned law enforcement and public safety resources.

The Candidate:

The Police Chief - Director of Public Safety must have well developed technical, analytical, interpersonal and communication skills. They must be able to perform well under pressure, the ability to set and meet goals, ability to meet deadlines, and the ability to develop and maintain credibility and trust within Public Safety, City Council, City staff, the public, local state and federal agencies.

Compensation and Benefits:

The starting salary range for this position is $56,250 - $69,200 DOQ. Benefits include Kansas Public Employees Retirement; medical and dental; vacation, sick leave and holidays; optional vision, 457 deferred compensation and 125 plans.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

Candidates must have a minimum of ten (10) years law enforcement experience. A high school diploma and a minimum of 60 hours in Criminal Justice is required. A bachelor's degree in criminal justice is preferred. Certification through the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center is required.

Work Environment, Physical Demands and Other Requirements:

Work is performed both in an office environment and an outdoor setting under stressful and potentially dangerous conditions. May have exposure to adverse weather, life threatening situations, bloodborne pathogens, hazardous chemicals and explosives. Vision must be correctable to 20/20. The candidate must successfully pass a post-offer background and drug test.
