CIVILIAN SPECIALIST:

The Civilian Specialist is a non-sworn position for those who are eighteen years old and thinking about a career in law enforcement, for those later in life still wanting or needing to work and everyone in between. The position of Civilian Specialist is critical for the Sheriff's Office as a support function to sworn deputies within the Detention Bureau. A Civilian Specialist can be assigned to the areas of lobby, booking desk, control centers, alarm monitoring, property room, inmate programs, classifications, court coordinator, personnel and records. Civilian Specialists assist in providing an environment that is professional and humane for all inmates as charged to the Sheriff by Kansas State Statute. Johnson County offers an excellent compensation and benefits package including health, flexible spending accounts, dental, vision, life insurance, paid leave including vacation, sick, floating holidays, military, parental, caregiver, and short-term disability, Kansas Public Employees Retirement System, 457(b) deferred compensation, 401(a) supplemental retirement, and wellness programs. Starting salary for a Civilian Specialist is $21.50/hour ($44,720 annual minimum). Johnson County Sheriff's Office offers education assistance and relocation reimbursement (criteria applies).

Job Requirements
Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Applicants must possess attention to detail, basic mathematical skills, human relations/interpersonal skills, ability to maintain confidentiality, and time management skills to include the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and meet deadlines. Physical abilities include mobility, agility, strength, dexterity, balance, coordination, and/or endurance.

Applicants will be required to submit to a polygraph, medical, physical, psychological interview, and thorough background investigation. Because the Sheriff's Office is a twenty-four-hour, seven day a week operation, Civilian Specialists may be assigned to work any shift and any day of the week, including holidays.
